Peace flags in Italy

More than two millions of peace flags.

It is the number of flags hanging from the windows all over Italy.
It is always a new emotion to find these flags. It is a sign that there are people who share the same ideal.
Generally when one is walking the streets of a big city as Roma is, one has the feeling of being alone.
These days the mere presence of so many flags, gives one the conviction of being in good company.
For many days now the weather has been splendid. The sky is blue, the sun bright and the trees are already in bloom.

Spring is coming and now more than ever, one can feel the strength of resurrection.
A resurrection of consciences so that we can expect to achieve a new and more human way of living.

I received this poem from a Jewish friend many years ago. He told me it had been written by a young Jewish girl whose name was Tali Sorech . At that time she was thirteen years old.

The peace flag has now the same colours. It is a rainbow flag perhaps in remembrance of what is written in the Bible: "I put my bow in the sky in sign of eternal alliance...

This poem aptly celebrates that promise as well as our expectations.

Moussia (Italy)

"I had a box of colours
bright and strong,
I had a box of colours
some warm, some very cold
I had no red for the blood of wounded people,
no black for the orphans' sorrow,
no white for the hands and faces of the dead,
no yellow for the ardent sands,
but I had orange for life's joys
and green for buds and nests
and the clear and bright skies blue
and pink for dreams and rest.

I sat down
and painted
PEACE"
