Anti-War Haiku Wall

Ten years ago, sanctions were placed by the UN on the people of Iraq and enforced by the U.S. and Great Britain. Humanitarian supplies such as food and medicine are now allowed to cross over the border. Neither are the supplies needed to maintain a healthy water system. The economic isolation (embargo) has contributed to more deaths in Iraq
than the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan during World War II combined.

The horrors of war! I've seen it in Vietnam. It is happening today in Israel. Young men and women sent to fight a battle orchestrated by rich industrialists and corrupt politicians. What they see and experience changes them forever. Often for the worse. Palestinians killing innocent people in the name of God. Israeli soldiers breaking the limbs of prisoners, blowing up public buildings in the name of God. No one listens. The stench of hatred permeating a land claimed to be holy by three of the world's major religions. Who is the winner? Who is the loser?

An Israeli soldier transformed into a faceless mass of flesh in an instant by a mortar shell. A friend and fellow soldier holding the dead man in his arms.

A Palestinian ambulance driver watching a mother die during childbirth because the mother was not allowed entry into a hospital due to her nationality.

Anger and rage take the place of patriotism and love for God.

Political leaders from both sides....terrorists and murderers protecting their agendas and interests. Living in comfort. Sheltered from battle. Their sons and daughters sent away to posh schools....far removed from the war they have the masses fight for them. In the name of God.
